After nearly 10 years of evangelisation, semantic technologies is now being part of the broadcasting landscape. Broadcasters, manufacturers and asset management solution providers’ attention has risen to an unequalled level of awareness. The EBU welcomes this evolution and has developed active collaboration with key industry actors. The EBU is promoting several solutions for the semantic management of audio-visual content and live sport data.

Many organisations are adopting a form of Structured Content Authoring (SCA). This to increase content consistency, discoverability, semantic quality of content, in a multi-channel world.

The creation of derivative data works, i.e. for purposes like content creation, service delivery or process automation, is often accompanied by legal uncertainty about usage rights and high costs in the clearance of licensing issues. The DALICC project aims to develop a software framework that supports the automated clearance of rights issues in the creation of derivative data works.

Discovering hidden facts in steadily growing and complex knowledge graphs is challenging. It‘s not that a proper SPARQL query can‘t retrieve valuable information. A mission critical task often is to get an idea of those queries and the graph. This becomes even more challenging when the underlying data or schema is not well known.

SKOS is a widely adopted W3C recommendation. It provides us with a standard way of expressing and exchanging concept schemes like taxonomies and thesauri. SKOS concept schemes are often managed in tools that provide a user-friendly way of managing these. Such tools typically have proprietary features, such as workflows, user management, audit trails, etc.

Audio and moving images are set apart from any other content by the adherence to a time line. As with any other media, we may state globally what a story is about. If we want to be more specific, we can state this by chapter or section of a text for anything that is written on paper. To make an equivalent statement about the songs of an Album, or if we want to locate King Marke finding Tristan and Isolde red-handed, which happens from bar 101 in the second act of Wagner's iconic opera, we need to align this i.e. with time elapsed since the start.

The goal of the talk is to solicit comment on issues of scalability and interworking.
